Senior girls basketball
Goderich remains undefeated and tied for first place in the Huron-Perth high school league after a narrow 35-33 victory over Mitchell on Wednesday.
The Vikings improve to 2-0 for the season and are tied with Stratford St. Michael and Stratford District atop league standings.
Mitchell falls to 1-1 on the season but is just two points back of first place.
On the road in Clinton, South Huron picked up a 26-17 road win over Central Huron.
Both the senior and junior teams from F.E. Madill and St. Anne’s were scheduled for Wednesday games across town at St. Anne’s, but results were unreported at press time.
Field hockey
There’s a tight race atop the Huron-Perth field hockey standings this season.
St. Marys, Goderich and St. Anne’s are neck and neck in the top three positions after an impactful Wednesday schedule that saw the Vikings grab two important victories.
Goderich defeated St. Anne’s in Clinton 1-0, then picked up a 3-0 win over Stratford District Secondary School.
St. Anne’s also defeated Stratford District 4-0 on Wednesday, with two goals from Clara Leduc and singles from Taryn Steinmann and Kaitelynn Langendoen.
Senior boys volleyball
Goderich and Central Huron are both looking to build on their regular-season openers from last week.
The Vikings defeated Mitchell 2-0 and fell 2-0 to Stratford District on Sept. 22, and are set to host F.E. Madill and Central Huron today (Thursday) in Goderich.
Central Huron fell 2-1 to St. Marys last week and faced Stratford St. Mike’s, but results of the latter game are still unreported.
South Huron and St. Anne’s have their season openers today in Listowel, in a triple header that also includes the host team.
Junior boys volleyball
On the junior side, both Goderich and Central Huron are looking to bounce back.
Goderich opened its season on Sept. 22 with a 2-0 win over Mitchell but fell 2-1 to Stratford District.
Central Huron fell in both its season openers, 2-0 to St. Marys and 2-0 to Stratford St. Michael.
St. Anne’s travels to Listowel today for its season opener.
